Why this calendar exists
The moon's rhythm is one of the oldest timekeeping systems still in daily use. In Vietnam, the lunar calendar (âm lịch) determines Tết, the Mid-Autumn Festival, ancestor-worship days, and the monthly Hội An Lantern Festival — held on the 14th day of every lunar month, the evening before each full moon. Calculations here use the astronomical synodic period (29.530588853 days), accurate to roughly one hour for any date within ±1000 years.
