How Much Is a Massage in Vietnam? Why the Answer Runs From $5 to $100

From about US$2 on a pavement to about US$93 at a resort spa, the published prices are all real; they are prices for different minutes, rooms and bills. Here is each tier with its source and date, why VAT on a massage is 10%, where our own spa in Hội An sits (not the cheapest), and what we could not verify.

How much is a massage in Vietnam? Published prices run from 50,000₫ for a pavement session to about 2,425,000₫ for 90 minutes at a resort spa, roughly US$2 to US$93 at 26,000₫ to the dollar, and the $5, $30 and $100 you see in the search results are all real prices. They are prices for different things: a different number of minutes, a pavement or a private room, a bill with or without service charge and VAT. This page lines up the published figures by tier, each with its source and date, says where no honest dated figure exists, and puts our own spa on the same map. We are Nghê Prana, a riverside hotel on the Thu Bồn in Hội An, and we are not the cheapest option on it.

Read the dollar figures against that table and each one lands on a row. $5 is about 130,000₫: a 45-minute pavement massage in Hồ Chí Minh City at 150,000₫, or the "from" price on a travel-marketplace listing headed "Prices from $5", which is the cheapest item on a whole country's list. $30 is about 780,000₫: the top of the Hội An day-spa band, or 90 minutes of Thai or bamboo massage on our menu at 770,000₫. $100 is about 2,600,000₫: 90 minutes at a resort spa once the 5% service charge and the VAT are added, which on the menu we read comes to 2,425,500₫. Nobody in the search results is wrong; they are pricing different hours.

Why do massage prices in Vietnam run from $5 to $100?

Six things move the number, and none of them is a trick. They are the ordinary differences between a stool on a pavement, a shop on a side street and a resort with grounds, and a guest who knows them can compare any two prices in a minute.

  • Minutes. A 45-minute session and a 90-minute one are different purchases. A "from" price is usually the shortest item on the list.
  • The room. A pavement massage is a stool or a mat in the open air; a day spa has rooms; a resort spa sells its grounds, large rooms and changing rooms along with the hour.
  • Sticker or bill. Some hotel and resort menus print prices before a 5% service charge and VAT, the "++" after the figure; on the resort menu we read, the two together add 15.5% at the till.
  • One person or two. A couples price may be for both of you or for each of you; read which.
  • The tip. It is optional in Vietnam, and some guides fold it into their figure while others do not.
  • The city. Rent and setting differ: the same guide starts a day-spa hour at 250,000₫ in Hồ Chí Minh City and at 400,000₫ in Hội An.

Four of these, the minutes, one person or two, service charge and VAT, and the tip, are the checklist on our full body massage page; once they are answered, two prices compare. The tip has its own page, tipping for a massage in Vietnam, with the 50,000 to 100,000₫ we suggest. The other two, the room and the city, are what the rest of this page is about.

The pavement tier: about $2 to $6

In June 2026 the Vietnamese news site Znews reported on visitors lining up for pavement massage and cupping on Ký Con street in Bến Thành ward, Hồ Chí Minh City (Znews, Trúc Hồ, 26 June 2026). One visitor took the 45-minute session: "tôi chọn gói 45 phút với giá 150.000 đồng, rẻ không tưởng" ("I chose the 45-minute package for 150,000 dong, unbelievably cheap"). The same report describes an evening pavement massage at 50,000₫ a session. At 26,000₫ to the dollar, those are about US$6 and about US$2, and they are the floor of what this page found.

The state broadcaster VOV, in an English-language report of 12 February 2026 on why visitors praise Vietnam's haircuts and massages, put "herbal therapeutic packages lasting 30–90 minutes" at 100,000 to 400,000₫, about US$4 to US$15, without saying what the packages contain (VOV). An English-language guide with prices as of July 2026 puts blind-therapist salons, a long-standing Vietnamese trade, at 100,000 to 200,000₫ for 60 minutes (VietnamSpot). This tier is real, popular and good value; what the price buys is the therapist's hands and the minutes, usually without a private room.

Day spas: about $10 to $31 for an hour, by city

We could not find a dated survey of day-spa prices from a Vietnamese newspaper or public body. On 6 November 2026 we searched VnExpress, Tuổi Trẻ, Thanh Niên, Dân Trí, Báo Đà Nẵng and Báo Quảng Nam and found feature stories and promotions, not surveys. The most complete dated figures we found are in an English-language guide, VietnamSpot's spa page, which gives 60-minute prices "current as of July 2026": mid-range day spas at 250,000 to 500,000₫ in Hồ Chí Minh City, 300,000 to 600,000₫ in Đà Nẵng, 400,000 to 700,000₫ in Hanoi and 400,000 to 800,000₫ in Hội An (VietnamSpot). It is one publisher's survey, not an official figure, and we quote it as that.

Why would an hour cost more in Hội An than in Hồ Chí Minh City? The same guide answers in one line: Hội An runs "20–30 percent pricier than Da Nang — that's the cost of the atmosphere", with many spas set in the Old Town's historic houses. The same publisher's massage page gives 200,000 to 350,000₫ for a 60-minute Vietnamese massage with no city attached (VietnamSpot, updated 17 July 2026). Its two pages give different numbers for the reason this page exists: one is a figure for the whole country, the other a city and a tier.

Resort spas: where the $100 comes from

The top of the range is the resort spa, and the clearest published example we could read is a menu rather than an article: the Vietnamese-language spa menu of a luxury resort in Cần Thơ, a PDF dated March 2024 (published menu). It lists 60-minute treatments at 1,550++ and 90-minute full-body treatments at 2,100++, with the note "Giá được tính bằng 1.000 đồng, chưa bao gồm 5% phí dịch vụ và VAT hiện hành" ("prices in thousands of dong, not including the 5% service charge and current VAT"). Add the 5% and then 10% VAT, and 2,100,000₫ on the menu becomes 2,425,500₫ on the bill, about US$93. The menu also says what that buys: treatment rooms each with air conditioning, a bathroom and a private changing room, beside a tree-shaded canal. For Hội An, the July 2026 guide puts premium spas at 800,000 to 1,800,000₫ for 60 minutes, and VinWonders' visitor guide of 20 May 2024 gives $20 to $60 as the typical price for international tourists (VinWonders). A menu from March 2024 may have changed since; it is a dated example, not a current quote.

Why 10% VAT and not 8%? Vietnam cut VAT from 10% to 8% for most goods and services from 1 July 2025 to 31 December 2026, but Decree 174/2025/NĐ-CP leaves out everything subject to special consumption tax (Decree 174/2025/NĐ-CP, 30 June 2025), and massage is on that list: the Special Consumption Tax Law 66/2025 taxes "dịch vụ massage" at 30% from 2026, as the Cần Thơ Department of Justice summarised it on 21 July 2025 (Sở Tư pháp Cần Thơ). So VAT on a massage stays at 10%. On our menu none of this is added at the desk: our prices are final, VAT included, with no service charge.

At the resort end, the printed price is the start of the bill: the service charge and the VAT come on top.

Our cheapest hour, 450,000₫, is three times the 45-minute pavement massage in the Znews report, and it sits in the lower half of the Hội An day-spa band in the July 2026 guide. Our dearest 90 minutes, 770,000₫, is about a third of the resort bill above. So the honest answer is this: a hotel spa priced like a mid-range Hội An day spa, not the cheapest hour in town and not a resort. If the lowest price matters most, there are cheaper hours in Hội An, and they are a perfectly good choice. What the difference buys here is in the next section, and our package arithmetic shows when buying several treatments together saves money and when it does not.

What our price includes, and what it does not

  • The price is the bill. Final, VAT included, no service charge, nothing added at the desk.
  • A private room with a door that closes, and for two, the couple's room with two beds side by side.
  • A consultation before you start: pressure, anything about your health, and a body map where you tap a zone once to focus on it and twice to avoid it.
  • A male or a female therapist on request; write it in the booking note.
  • For hotel guests, 15% off spa treatments. That discount is for in-house guests only. Visitors who are not staying with us get a fresh drink after the treatment.
  • Free pickup to the spa from anywhere in Hội An, for anyone, hotel guest or not: message +84 896 687 961 on WhatsApp or Zalo with where you are and when, and we reply within 15 minutes during spa hours, 9:00 to 21:00.
  • Not included: a tip, because none is expected. If you want to leave one, 50,000 to 100,000₫ per therapist in cash is our house guidance.
An empty massage room with a dark-blue padded table under a backlit panel patterned with leaves
Part of what a spa price pays for is a room; a pavement price pays for the hands and the minutes.

Do you remove all your clothes for a full body massage?

Not here. For every oil massage, the hot stones, the herbal compress, bamboo and the pregnancy treatment, you undress to your underwear, which stays on for the whole treatment, and a towel covers you throughout; only the area being worked on is uncovered. For the Thai massage without oil, the foot massage and the nail menu you stay fully dressed. Nghê Prana is a licensed hotel spa and every treatment is therapeutic: there are no sexual services of any kind. The treatment-by-treatment answer is on what to wear to a massage.

What we could not verify

Four gaps, stated plainly. No Vietnamese newspaper or public body we could find publishes a dated survey of massage prices by tier, so the day-spa bands rest on one commercial guide. The pavement prices are from Hồ Chí Minh City; we found no dated press figure for Hội An's budget tier, and we have not surveyed Hội An shops ourselves. The resort example is a menu file dated March 2024 and may have changed, and the 2,425,500₫ total assumes the VAT is charged on the price plus the service charge. And the search results include forum threads with first-hand prices that we could not open, so we quote none of them. The one set of figures here we can vouch for is our own, read from our live menu on 6 November 2026.
